Learning The Secrets About Gear

Outdoor Survival 101: The Essential Things You Need

If you’re a person who loves to go camping or hiking in places where you literally don’t get the usual conveniences of living, then it only means you should be carrying with you a survival gear all the time. Now the question is what should comprise this kit?

1 – Knife

The decision to go camping or hiking without bringing a knife with you as part of your outdoor survival gear is probably the stupidest one you’re going to make. Mind you, a knife is not exclusively for cutting stuff in the kitchen as it also is a very crucial part of a survival gear. The reason why you can’t go out there without it is because it can do so many things that other outdoor survival gear and tools cannot. This includes cutting rope, opening cans, building a shelter, preparing food, and cutting cloth and bandages.

2 – Cordage

Rope is undoubtedly an essential part of any DIY survival gear. Keep in mind that when it comes to your chances of survival, the absence of a rope means that yours is very slim, unless of course you know how to make your own using stuff in the environment. Rope is used for things like building shelter, climbing, holding things together, lashing poles, fishing, making animal traps, and for attachment purposes.

3 – Water Container

Quite frankly, this one does not really need some explanation. Anyway, a normal person can survive days even without food, so long as there is water. That’s why if you plan on surviving out there, you must endure bringing with you a water bottle or any other container that can store water for drinking. Know that not all water found outdoors is ideal for drinking.

4 – Signaling Equipment

Whenever you find yourself in a survival situation while camping in an isolated and remote area, one of your priorities is to find a way to make contact with other people. Bear in mind that if you let several days slip away without making the effort to make contact, your chances of being rescued will substantially decrease. For you to be sure you have the ability to contact people for a possible rescue, you have to always bring with you a signaling device. A mirror, whistle, and anything that can produce light will be of great help. Any signaling equipment must be considered as an essential tactical survival gear that you can’t afford to forget bringing.

Aside from those four, there still are so many essential survival things you must bring with you if you want to be sure you’re safe out there, even in the middle of the most challenging survival situations.
